Bloor-Yorkville Shines Bright for Holiday Magic

On Saturday, November 19, the Bloor-Yorkville Business Improvement Area (BYBIA) will kick off the holiday season with Holiday Magic, featuring a FREE, open-air concert in support of the Canadian Foundation for Aids Research (CANFAR).

Between 5pm – 6:30pm, families, friends and music lovers are invited to the Village of Yorkville Park (Cumberland & Bellair Streets) for the Official “Flick the Switch” Lighting Ceremony and a special performance by Shawn Desman.

Known as one of Canada’s greatest pop stars, the multi platinum selling artist will ring in the holidays with the Bloor-Yorkville community performing some of his hit songs. The evening’s musical entertainment will start with a fantastic performance by The Heist.

Global News Weekend Meteorologist Ross Hull will also be on hand to “flick the switch” and turn on the holiday lights to launch Holiday Magic in Bloor-Yorkville. Attendees can also look forward to complimentary chocolates from Lindt, and hot beverage, courtesy of Nespresso, as they enjoy the glittering lights, majestic Christmas tree and storefronts swathed in festive decorations. Cash & cheque donations are welcome in support of CANFAR.  There will be representatives from our charitable partners on-site at the BYBIA Tent.

HOLIDAY LIGHTS AND DISPLAYS THROUGHOUT BLOOR-YORKVILLE

Throughout the season, patrons of the neighbourhood can look forward to shopping, dining and taking in the area’s art and cultural attractions surrounded by festive lighting along tree-lined streets. The BYBIA will transform the Village of Yorkville Park into a dazzling display of lights, including beautiful cascading lights on the arbour, festive hanging lanterns, snowflake lollipops and a 30-foot LED-lit Christmas tree located in the park. Another 20-foot tree glowing with an LED lights will be on display at The Colonnade, 131 Bloor Street West.

“MY HOLIDAY MAGIC MOMENT”- INSTAGRAM CONTEST

During the rest of the Holiday Magic season through December, the BYBIA will be holding a “My Holiday Magic Moment” – Instagram Contest. Visitors are encouraged to post a “My Holiday Magic Moment” photo tagging @BloorYorkville and hash tagging #HolidayMagic16. Photos can be taken at the kick-off lighting ceremony, at landmark neighbourhood spots, in front of store windows, etc. throughout the season. Watch for the Holiday Magic e-blasts in November, for more information!
